Kickin’ it in Calgary

Author: Alicia Van Hyfte

There’s no doubt that Calgary is a sports city.

With the Flames, Hitmen, Roughnecks and Stampeders bringing home championship titles and trophies, it’s not hard to be inspired by our stellar local lineup—and that lineup now includes a Canadian Premier League soccer team.

Calgary was one of four cities approved by the Canadian Soccer Association for a professional club membership in May 2018. Opening for the 2019 season, Calgary’s Canadian Premier League soccer team, Cavalry FC, hit the ground running and won the first Canadian Premier League Spring Season Championship.

The success of Cavalry FC has made the Calgary soccer community more vibrant than ever as fans flock to sports bars and Spruce Meadows with painted faces and waving flags to cheer on the local soccer champs. And the community’s soccer spirit hasn’t stopped there. Calgarians of all ages are finding inspiration to give the sport a try by signing up for competitive or recreational soccer leagues in the city.

If you’re also feeling motivated by the city’s soccer craze, here’s a few places you can get involved with the beautiful game in Calgary:
