After graduating from the University of Calgary with a computer science degree and working in the oil and gas industry for a few years, Eric Yeung was inspired by his furry sidekick, Keira, to work in the dog care business. Eric is the owner and operator of PAWS Dog Daycare. He is passionate about food, photography, and of course, man’s best friend.

1. Depending on if you are born and raised in Calgary or have moved to Calgary… Where did you come from and what attracted you to the city or what has kept you in the city?

My family immigrated to Calgary when I was young. I have stayed in the city because Calgary is where my family made a living. Calgary is always on lists of best places to live in the world. Why would we live anywhere else? Go Flames Go!

2. Where is your favorite place to eat or visit in Calgary?

On the weekends you can often find me having dim sum at T.Pot.  I also love me a good bowl of ramen. One of my faves is the Japanese Noodle House by 11 Avenue and 13 Street SW. I recommend the spicy pork ramen and gyoza lunch combo.

3. What is a fun fact people wouldn’t know about you?

People are often surprised when they discover I have a degree in computer science because I work with dogs now. Working with dogs is easy once you learn to understand their logic, which is kind of like reading their “code”.

4. What do you think is the biggest surprise about Calgary for anyone who isn’t familiar with the city?

Calgary has always been known as a big oil & gas city, “North Texas” so to speak.  However, there is a huge and growing community in the tech scene. The small but mighty team at Startup Calgary has really helped aspiring entrepreneurs navigate the scary world of starting your own company.

5. How has the city influenced who you are or your organization?

Calgary is a diverse, hard-working, and passionate city. Calgary is also a big city but with a small community feel. We see this mirrored at PAWS Dog Daycare every day. Dogs of all shapes and sizes walk with our team. Our dedicated Pack Leaders work tirelessly to provide a safe, clean and healthy environment for the dogs. We are grateful for the opportunity to do what we love, and we appreciate the dog owners trusting us to care for their family member.
