1. What inspired you to take over the lifeincalgary Instagram account?

I love this city and especially the people who make it the great place I call home. I wanted to share all the things I love about Calgary with the followers of @lifeincalgary.

2. What do you tell your friends and family from other cities about life in Calgary?

We are an open and inclusive city. We have a very vibrant food and performing arts scene. Our city is culturally so rich, we have people that have moved here from all over the world and brought with them their cuisine, their talents and their warm spirit. When I travel away from here, I miss the variety this city offers on any given night of the week. I feel the perception of an oil & stampede city that once was, is a thing of the past, we have become so much more than that. The roots of big business oil that Calgary was built on are very strong and so those things are very established and will always be here. I love the entrepreneurial spirit of this city and the friendliness of people.

3. Any tips or advice for Calgary newcomers or those considering a move to Calgary?

Volunteer at as many organizations that involve your passions as possible. There are so many passionate people doing amazing work in this city and it is a great way to meet people and be part of something bigger than yourself.

4. How has the city influenced who you are or your organization?

I think growing up here and living my adult life here has afforded me to have many established friendships and it is so nice to run into people I haven’t seen in years. When we have held our film festival (@canadianIFFF) for the past three years in Calgary, we have loved hosting filmmakers from all over the world here in Calgary. I love hearing their perceptions of the city and it gives me so much pride in this city. CANIFFF tries to be very accessible on a global scale and elevate Canadian talents to that level.

5. What do you do in your spare time? Favourite Calgary past-time or activity?

I love river walks and bike rides along the Bow. I love Edworthy for the dog park. But my favourite thing to do is spend time here out and about.
