Proud Calgarian and Franco-Albertan, David Magnan leads DM Real Estate and has been a part of the city’s real estate industry since 2003. One of the top 3% of realtors in Canada, David’s focus on Calgary’s inner city and condo markets has brought him extensive knowledge about development and all trends in Calgary.
Having young kids keeps David and his family discovering urban parks, hot spots, local festivals, local events, fun places to eat or get a (ice cream) treat.
1. What do you tell your friends and family from other cities about life in Calgary?
I have been a super fan of this city since the day I moved here over 20 years ago. I have always raved about Calgary’s unique, youthful and vibrant culture that has so much to offer at every stage of your life.
We have amazing urban playgrounds, great walkable neighbourhoods, a lively core, and a variety of festivals and there’s always a new place to eat!
2. Where do you take friends and family when they visit?
This list is endless! Some of my top spots are: Calaway Park, the Zoo, Telus Spark, Prince’s Island Park for a walk along the river, the East Village for a coffee and treat at Sidewalk CitizenBowness Park for a canoe ride, coffee and shopping in Inglewood and Kensington, a great night out on 17th Avenue at a trendy restaurant like Pigeon Hole. And of course, a trip up the Calgary Tower to see the expansive views of the city and surrounding area.
3. What do you think is the biggest surprise about Calgary for anyone who isn’t familiar with the city?
Not only has Calgary has been voted the cleanest city in the world, it has over 333 days of sunshine every year. People who come to visit are always surprised at how clean and bright the city is everyday!
4. How has the city influenced who you are or your organization?
From the day I moved here, I connected with this city and I’ve been its number-one cheerleader ever since. I established my real estate career here because I believe in Calgary as an energy hub and I believe it has the foundation required to continue evolving into the world-class city I know it is.
I have seen Calgary grow and evolve over the last 20 years. It is a city of hard-working, kind, generous and resilient people that I’ve had the pleasure of working with and connecting with throughout my career.
5. What is a fun fact people wouldn’t know about you?
When I was 15, I played a main role in a made for TV movie called Guitarman and starred alongside Sean Ashmore and Andrea Martin. That was the beginning and end of my movie career.

Calgary is a very welcoming city. It’s great to find a place where you get that sense of belonging.
