Swine flu outbreak

I am sure that you have heard about the Swine flu outbreak that has started in Mexico and has spread to some other countries including Canada.

Things you should know:

1. If you have been to Mexico within the last two weeks and start to have flu like symptoms, call your doctor and get medical advice. Don’t go to the hospital automatically. You run the risk of spreading the virus to sick people. Your doctor may want to keep you and treat you at home.

2. If you are planning to travel to Mexico in the near future, be prepared to head to an alternate location. The Canadian health agency is warning against travel to Mexico unless absolutely necessary.

3. Keep yourself informed, both about this particular outbreak, and influenza in general. Here are some web pages that may be useful:

Lake Louise Pictures

Despite all the snow and ice that you see in the picture it was just -8 Celsius that Day.

Thought that converting the pictures to black and white would keep the focus on the snow

I captured this video during a trip to Lake Louise on December 24th.

Temperature was around -30 to -35 Celsius that day. If you have no idea what that means then try to imagine a temperature that is twice as cold as inside you freezer.

It’s also worth comparing this video to the one (below) that I captured during a visit to the same location last Summer.

14th Annual Canadian Skills Competition in Calgary

The 14th Annual Canadian Skills Competition is taking place in Calgary from May 25 – 28, 2008.

Here are the comments from the event web site:

“The Canadian Skills Competition remains the only event of its kind in Canada. It is the only national, Olympic-style, multi-trade and technology competition for young students and apprentices in the country. Alberta is proud to host the 2008 Canadian Skills Competition at Calgary’s Stampede Park! This is the fourth time Skills Canada Alberta has hosted this prestigious event.

The CSC is the main step in selecting the members of Team Canada for the WorldSkills Competition that is held every two years. The 2008 Canadian Skills Competition is the qualifying year for WorldSkills Calgary 2009. The individuals that will represent Canada at the 2009 WorldSkills Competition will be selected at the 14th Canadian Skills Competition in Calgary on May 25-28, 2008.”
