In case you are planning to move to Calgary chances are that you will be arriving through the Calgary International Airport.
In case you are arriving from another country you will receive a customs card during your flight.
Fill the card and handle it to the officer who will check your passport and VISA.
The officer will ask you a few questions and assuming all is well he/she will give your passport and card back and you are clear to go get your luggage. Don’t throw your card away just yet as you will have to give it to another office before you leave the luggage claim area.
The officer will at the exit of the luggage claim area will check your card and in case the first officer thought you were carrying food or any non authorized materials you may be directed to a more detailed inspection of your luggage.
Assuming all is well you will just be directed to leave the luggage claiming area and head into the airport meeting point where you will be able to meet whoever may be waiting for you.
In case you are just arriving from another city within Canada you will just leave your plane and walk straight to one of the domestic flights luggage claim areas and all you have to do is pickup your luggage and go away.
Once you luggage is on hand you can easily catch a cab any time of the day and a trip from the Airport to downtown Calgary will cost you something around C$ 30.
There are also plenty of car rental companies around in case you need a car but I suggest you make reservations in advance. The rental companies are located at the airport and you do not need to take a bus to go anywhere which makes life a little bit easier.
